I know I say our family costume almost didn't make it, often. But this year REALLY almost didn't happen. I was still making costumes minutes before trick or treating started. Though many young kids didn't get our theme this year, the millennials loved us! This time we left the mortal world and walked straight into Mount Olympus with a full Disney Hercules family costume—and I’m not kidding when I say it might be my favorite we’ve ever done.

Brandon owned Hades (the blue flame wig unlocked a new personality, and I’m still laughing). I went full Megara—purple drape, dramatic hair, and the “I’m a damsel, I’m in distress, I can handle this” energy that carried me through the night. We rewrote the ending: Meg marries Hades. The internet will cope. The girls were absolutely made for Pain & Panic—chaotic little icons. And the boys? A tiny Hercules flexing his “muscles” with a mini Phil stomping around like he had training to run. {no photos though, he was NOT feeling it!

I love the nostalgia of this one! (hello, ’90s Disney), and there’s a character for everyone in a big family. It’s also wildly forgiving—half DIY, half pulled from the internet, all personality. Think purple draping and gold accents for Meg, a blue-flame wig and smoky liner for Hades, simple wings and makeup cues for Pain & Panic, and little gladiator details for Hercules. Phil is all attitude—horns, goaty vibes, done.

We mixed and matched pieces we already had with a few quick orders and tiny hacks. Nothing precious, just the right cues so people immediately got it. And they did. The comments, the “WAIT—YES,” the kids staying in character… chef’s kiss.

And because I can’t ever just leave well enough alone, yes — I DIY'ed the Air-Hercs for Pain and the Herculade cup for Panic. If Disney won’t make the merch, I will. Peak commitment and honestly worth every second because those accessories made the look.
